Prayer Shawl Ministry

-Ellen Paquette, parish nurse

Prayer shawls for women, holy blankets for men, are being prayerfully knit or crocheted by members of the parish to be given to individuals to bring comfort to those who are going through a time of illness, grief, challenge, need or celebration.

Prayers are offered during the making of the shawl/blanket inviting God’s loving presence during the process.

On the first Sunday of the month, two prayer shawls/holy blankets are brought to the Sunday service, representing all the shawls/blankets that will be going forth that month. This allows the congregation to add their prayers, love and blessings too.

The prayer shawl ministry meets once a month on the first Thursday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. All are welcome but you don’t have to attend the meetings to be a member of this ministry. You can get directions for the shawls/blankets from the parish nurse. The yarn you use should be extra soft, not wool and washable.

When a shawl/blanket is completed, you can drop it off in the main office with a note saying to  Ellen Paquette and include your name too.

As of this writing, 110 prayer shawls/holy blankets have been given out. The 100th one went to Mark Beckwith and was specially crafted to honor his position of bishop.
