Residuary Bequest
Q. We have been members of All Saints for many years. We love the church and plan to leave a bequest to All Saints in our wills. However, as seniors on fixed incomes, we are concerned about the rising cost of healthcare exceeding our insurance, as well as the possibility of major nursing home expense. We don't want to become a burden to our family. Is there some way we can leave a bequest without mentioning a specific amount?
A. Yes. You may make provision for a residuary bequest. With this type of bequest, you would leave a percentage of your property to All Saints, after all debts, taxes, expenses, and other bequests have been paid. For example, you could tithe, or leave 10% of your estate, after expenses, to All Saints, or All Saints and another charity. This way you will be able to take care of your family and your church, as well as whatever expenses arise.
A bequest is a vote of confidence in your church. Be a WILLing Christian. Remember your church.
You should, of course, seek the advice of an attorney and/or a financial advisor when creating your will or when adding a provision to your will.

The Arbor Society is a fellowship of a growing group of parishioners who have remembered All Saints in their will or in their life estate.
"People have made at least a start at understanding the meaning of life when they plant shade trees under which they know they will never sit."
