Chalice Ministers

There are 3 Chalice Ministers scheduled during the liturgical seasons of Epiphany and Lent. During these liturgical seasons the High Altar is used to administer communion. We have an extra Eucharistic Station at the lower rail so that people who can’t climb stairs will also be able to receive communion.

Arrive at 8:45 a.m. Let the Verger know you are there.
Come forward at the Fraction Anthem, indicated in the Service Program. You will be meeting the 2 other Chalice Ministers, so try to walk with them.
At the foot of the steps, bow simultaneously toward the Altar.
Climb steps and walk forward to the Altar.
Just before you reach the Altar, split off and walk to opposite ends, facing clergy. Clergy will hand you the Chalice and Purificator (white cloth used to wipe the cup.)
The Clergy serve Communion to themselves and then to the Chalice Ministers.
As Clergy serve bread to the congregation, follow with the Chalice saying, “The blood of Christ, the cup of salvation.” If someone has sipped, the Chalice Minister should wipe the cup with the Purificator and turn the cup before approaching the next communicant.
If there are 3 Chalice Ministers, one should go with the Clergy-person serving wine at the lower rail. The other 2 C.M.’s stay at the upper rails.
After all have received Communion, turn and walk toward the Altar. Place Chalice and Purificator on the small table to the right of the Altar.
Return down the stairs, bowing simultaneously once more at the bottom of the stairs.
Return to your seat in the congregation.
