You will receive a copy of the reading by mail during the week before you are scheduled to read. Practice the Reading on several different days, until you feel very comfortable with it. Check any unfamiliar words for correct pronunciation in your copy of A Guide to Pronouncing Biblical Names.
Arrive at 8:45 a.m. Find the verger and tell him/her that you are there and ready to read. Then sit down with your family.
Get up when the Family Service leaflet indicates ‘First Reading.’ A fresh copy of the Reading will be on the portable lectern in center-front of church. Please do not carry the Reading up to the portable lectern with you. Parent or other support person may accompany you. Remember to speak loudly, slowly, and distinctly.
When the reading is complete, read the closing sentence:

Return to your seat, leaving the Reading on the portable lectern.
