Family Service Verger
Before Service:
- Arrive at 8:35 a.m.
- Check dry-erase board in clergy robing room for Family Service participants.
- Pick up (from blue plastic tub on desk in clergy robing room):
- 9:00 Family Service Verger Checklist on clipboard
- First Reading on clipboard
- Prayer-Thanksgiving cards (in plastic display stands)
- Pencils (in baskets)
- Family Service programs
- Place Prayer-Thanksgiving card stands, pencils, and Family Service programs on small tables at cross-aisles in church.
- Place First Reading on portable lectern. Check to make sure reader is there and knows when to come forward: When the Family Service program indicates ‘first reading.’
- Check to make sure the Chalice-Ministers are there. Make sure they know to:
- Come forward at the Fraction Anthem (indicated in Family Service program.)
- Elevate the Chalice when the Clergy elevate the Altar Bread at ‘The Invitation.’
- The Acolytes should be there. They are scheduled by Derek Frimpong and find their own replacement if needed.
- Give Family Service programs to the Greeters. They will stand just through the double doors from Ramp entrance on Irving Street, and inside the Huntington Hall entrance to the church. They welcome people, and answer any questions about location of Nursery, coat room, Church School classes, bathrooms, etc. Note that there is a nice ‘welcome and orientation’ note on the inside of the front cover of the programs.
- If a Family Service Participant does not arrive, find someone from the congregation to fill in.
During Service:
- Count the congregation and record date and number on the verger checklist.
- Move chairs, lectern, and microphone away from the lower altar rail to the large column at the side aisle.
After Service:
- Wait until Postlude is finished.
- Bring Offering Basket to the Sacristy for safekeeping.
- Return Pencils, clipboards, Prayer/Thanksgiving card stands to the blue plastic bin in the Clergy Robing Room.
- Check the seats and pick up programs or other items left behind. Bring ‘lost and found’ items to the church office. Put leftover programs on the Huntington Hall stage.
