The reredos is forty-two feet high and contains sixty tons of carved stone. It is made of caenstone, a soft type of marble. The figures were first make in plaster in this country, and the carving was done in Italy.
Note the Choir of Angels singing and praising God on either side of the Nativity panel. Also the introduction of the little cherub's heads which went through the last fire and were part of the old altar.
